Parrots everywhere. Lots of Macaw's, too. A Macaw is gorgeous, but has the disposition of a Bronx bartender with an ingrown toenail.

Morning trek to beach. Warming the huevos and continuing to nurse the tequila teat. Speaking of teats, there were a huge number of Canadians (especially French Quebecites) whose teats had been cruelly kept from the sunlight during the winter and who subsequently let them loose to get sunburned to a bright pink hue. Looked painful, but the darlings seemed relieved to flap freely in the wind and sun.

Local beach near my room. Water was always warm. Air temp ranged from 22 to 28 C. although the humidity was consistently near 90%

Iguana. They are everywhere like rats. Didn't ask if they tate good.

Took the ferry to Cozumel for a day. Nice reef-encircled island. Very touristy, although I did visit their nature preserve.

Breakfast: "Paloma," Mexican for "pigeon." Squirt and a heaping helping of Tequila.

Main square. Sunday, so not very busy. Everyone was home watching QVC, no doubt.

Entrance barkers were ruthless and endemic. Only stores I'd go into were the ones who let me the fuck alone.

Mexican tejón, or coati. Scrappy litte bloke. Always digging and curious.

Mariposa. Butterfly. Lots of 'em everywhere. These loved rotten bananas.

Entrance to an underground river. Floated/swam down this one. Fish nibbled at my privates, and there were plenty of bats above.

Mayan ruins at Tulum.

The ruins at Tulum are built high on a cliff that abuts the ocean. Amazing site.

Close-up of the main temple. Can you see the face of the sleeping god carved into the corner? Each corner sported one.

One of the lookout buildings at the site. It was used primarily as a trading hub for the Mayans.
